Sage Accounts Training is owned and operated by accredited Sage trainer, Jayne Martins.

Before becoming a Sage trainer, Jayne’s professional career began as a Personal Assistant to a Company Accountant and as a consequence of that role gradually moved onto helping maintain the manual in house accounting systems. She soon became responsible for sales and purchase invoice recording, accounts receivable and payable, petty cash recording and processing both a weekly and monthly payroll. As the company grew and moved onto a computerised accounting system, Jayne worked alongside the directors to research, source and select the most appropriate solution for the business and was appointed the project manager to oversee the huge task of moving the business over to the new system which involved cleansing their sales, purchase and stock databases and being trained by the business partner how to implement, configure and setup the new sales, purchase, stock and nominal ledgers. Jayne then created a program of training workshops sessions and delivered training to all of the in house staff. She was the main point of contact between her company and the business partner’s implementation team to ensure that the project stayed on course, within budget and was fully implemented on time.

This sparked an interest in solution support and training and within two years of delivering this successful project, Jayne accepted the offer of a post with a local accounting solution business partner. This career move began from the bottom up in the technical support team which involved working with clients and the software houses on the day to day issues that we all have with computerised solutions and was a very valuable learning curve. After putting in many hours on solution training programs, Jayne became accredited with various solutions and progressed to delivering training courses on behalf of the reseller and within two years, was invited to head up the training services department, managing a team of trainers.

Jayne progressed to working directly for Sage Software PLC as a Field Based Technical Account Manager (TAM). Sage TAMs were more product than sales focused and were an important part of the Sage Business Partner support team, delivering solution training to the reseller network to help them identify and sell accounting and payroll solutions in their locality. She then accepted promotion to the newly formed Sage Presentation team and toured the UK delivering solution focused seminars hosted by the business partner network to potential end users which helped generate sales leads, a post that she enjoyed enormously.  After almost 10 years with Sage, and with all of this valuable experience under her belt, Jayne took the decision to leave the Sage family and become a freelance Sage trainer. This meant having to personally invest in the Sage accreditation programs to ensure that clients would be more inclined to trust her to deliver courses

What does a Sage Trainer do?

So, how do you go about building up a reputation as a trusted adviser and Sage trainer without the huge umbrella and presence of a corporate brand to do the talking for you as well as having to setup and maintain your own accounting system to present to HMRC?

Well, this is where previous experience as both a Personal and Accounting Assistant came in very handy.  With these skills, a lot of hard work and dogged determination, Jayne now works with several Sage Business Partners across the UK and with end users delivering in the main, bespoke on site Sage 50 solution courses.  At the beginning, classroom courses were also delivered but as even Sage PLC have now realised, businesses are no longer interested in learning a solution parrot fashion to a prescribed list of functions on dummy data, they require the trainer to analyse their business processes and staff skills and devise a more focused course that is delivered on site and using their own data.  Again, this is where Jayne’s long standing and varied experience comes in handy. Drawing on her past career and knowledge, she quickly sums up what is needed and trains either groups or individuals in a workshop type environment in a friendly but organised manner.

This vast experience sets Jayne apart from the ‘experts’ from Sage PLC who have mostly moved from a technical support role to a training role but who lack the valuable practical and accounting experience needed to configure, implement and train end users, something which several clients have commented on.
